Banana Critter is a project created by me, Sara. You can also call me Saz most of my internet friends do). I have plenty of other projects, but Banana Critter is perhaps my most beloved.

It started out as just an idea. I wanted to collect my mom’s recipes and post them on a website. But my mom never got to writing down her recipes – she still cooks by dashes, sprinkles, and “Ehhhh, about this much”s.

So that idea flopped, but I still wanted to do something where I could share little childhood feelings with the world. I wanted to do it through little funny characters. I have plenty of nicknames, and the one I identify with the most is probably “Banana”. That’s because I can’t speak my mother tongue.

One of my favourite childhood snacks is banana fritters. I thought I’d make that into a character, but that didn’t turn out either. Fast forward a few years, and in a dream, I thought of “a banana creature”, but make it cute.

And thus, Banana Critter was born! Banoonie and all the other characters quickly took shape (which I feel is a sign that this was a good plan), and Banana Critter established itself. Nothing I’ve ever done has ever come together so quickly and so clearly.

Banana Critter is truly a passion project. I hope that as you follow Banoonie, you discover more about yourself and your passions too. That is my goal. Banoonie is, after all, basically me and my memories stuffed into a tiny yellow body. I explore my world through Banoonie and she explores her world with me.
